October 1st

    Room: Main Shrine Room

“In a society increasingly fueled by greed, competition, and media-hype, the idea of authentic presence may soon become heresy. Beyond mindfulness, it is necessary to train in bodyfulness and cultivate genuineness toward a paradigm shift of inclusivity and interconnection.”

Mitra Lee Worley is an educator, performer and senior student of Chogyam Trungpa and Ponlop Rinpoche. Her focus is holistic embodied presence and authentic communication. As a practitioner, Lee aims to be a champion of meditation both on and off the cushion. “I look for the truth that underlies the dharma,” she says, “and seek ways to bring it into moment-to-moment life beyond any dogma.” Under the guidance of Chögyam Trungpa she began to study Mudra Space Awareness in 1974 and is one of a handful of authorized Mudra teachers. The work forms the basis of her method of Contemplative Performance training. Lee is the author of two books: Coming From Nothing: the Sacred Art of Acting and Teaching Presence: Field Notes for Players.  The latter book shares Lee’s pioneering efforts developing Naropa University’s Master of Arts program in Contemplative Education, and features embodied pedagogies and practices for both classrooms and everyday life.

Requested cost for the Tuesday evening program - $25. This program is open to all, regardless of financial resources.

Mudra Space Awareness is an energetic sequence of exercises designed by Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche from his Tibetan monastic dance training and further developed for Western contemplative practitioners by Mitra Lee. As tools for performance, whether in art or daily life, they strengthen creative imagination and reveal awareness of a bigger arena for visioning saner, more wholesome communication. This program will be held at Children’s Community School in West Philadelphia. For information and registration $60 go to:  https://phil.nalandabodhi.org/events/mitra-lee-worley-2019-09-29/
