Bagels and Dharma: The Power of Stories

with Thomas Berthoff

January 27th

    Room: Windhorse

Bagels & Dharma is a program that reflects Shambhala's vision of enlightened community. It combines meditation practice with a dharma talk, food, and conversation.

Join us for meditation from 9:00 to 10:30 (optional), followed by a talk by Shastri Tom Berthoff from 10:30 to 11:30, and bagels, coffee, and conversation from 11:30 to 12:00.

Tom will be telling two of his favorite stories about enlightened teachers: the story of the Angulimalasutra, and a story about Susuki Roshi who founded the San Francisco Zen Center. Both stories are about teachers and students, making mistakes, recognizing mistakes, and what happens afterwards.

Stories have the power to allow us to connect on a heart level to profound truths and cultivate understanding, often more directly than purely intellectual study and understanding.

This program is open to the public.

There is no fee to attend, but a donation of $2-$5 is requested.
