We might think of retreat as an opportunity to “get away from it all.” By bringing our retreat practice into the urban environment where we live, we invite “it all” to be the working basis of our practice. The qualities we seek in retreat are with us wherever we are; they can be part of our everyday life.


Discovering fearlessness is the spiritual, psychological, and political challenge of our time. We are inundated with news of violence, aggression and deception. In this retreat we will explore how the sitting practice of meditation, along with contemplative practice and embodied exercises, can reveal the wisdom of our minds and lead us to our inherent bravery.


Each retreat day consists of sitting and walking meditation, contemplative practice, talks and discussion, movement exercises, and mindful meals. Talks will be drawn from “Natural Bravery” by Gaylon Ferguson. People of all faiths and traditions are welcome.
The retreat is open to everyone, experienced meditators as well as people new to meditation.


The opportunity to experience intensive practice is precious. It is of great benefit to begin at the beginning and attend the entire retreat. You may also choose to attend only the weekend program and/or you may attend one or more of the Monday-Friday retreat days. The Friday retreat day is open only to those who attend Thursday as well.
Jude Robison has been practicing mindfulness meditation since 1980. She is currently a teacher and lead meditation instructor at the Philadelphia Shambhala Meditation Center. A student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, she discovered meditation at Naropa University where she went to study dance. Movement is fully incorporated in her mindfulness practice through Contemplative Dance Practice and other disciplines. She has an MFA in Book Arts from the University of the Arts.
